Meet Sarah Karkanis

Hi, I’m Sarah!

I am passionate about helping individuals regain their healthy self-esteem and self-image. Alongside these issues, I strive to help clients manage their stress and anxiety, as well as to navigate relationship and family difficulties. Within our sessions, I will create a warm, safe, and open space where you are free to share your experience without judgment or fear. I believe it is throughout this type of healthy, respectful relationship, that you can begin to see yourself through a more compassionate lens so that healing can begin. My goal is to aid in increasing your self-awareness through really getting to understand the relationship between your thoughts, feeling and behaviours as well as what is happening within your own nervous system. My approach is integrative and tailored to your own specific needs through a client-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive lens.

I am a student at Yorkville University’s Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology Program, and have completed a postgraduate diploma in Professional Psychology from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia as well as an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto. I have worked in the non-profit sector delivering behavioural therapy to children with disabilities and providing support to their families. I have also had extensive experience in case management for disability claims and have a great understanding of how mental health challenges can impact people’s day to day lives. I have also volunteered at the Distress Centres of Greater Toronto providing support to those in crisis and distress. I am committed to expanding my knowledge and expertise through ongoing professional trainings and workshops.

It is also helpful to know a bit about me as a person! I am an open-minded, adventurous person who enjoys exploring new places, food, and cultures. I spend a lot of my time participating in wellness events—anything yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork. I also love immersing myself in art, music, and poetry and have a marked interest in interior design.

I enjoy being out in nature with my dog and always looking for new and challenging experiences. When I am not outside, I am always looking to expand my knowledge through reading, podcasts, and documentaries.
